Argentina tests local players in Haiti friendly

Argentine coach Maradonna leads a squad of local based players in a friendly against Haiti with spot on the World Cup squad up for grabs.

Veterans Martin Palermo and Ariel Ortega, of Boca Juniors and River Plate, respectively, will lead Argentina’s attack in their World Cup preparation match against Haiti in Neuquen on Wednesday. Diego Maradona, the coach of the national team, already confirmed his starting line-up, from which he is expected to choose at least one player to form part of his 23-man squad for the World Cup in South Africa.

Maradona’s starting XI will be the following: Diego Pozo, Ariel Garce, Paolo Goltz, Juan Insaurralde, Fabian Monzon, Sebastian Blanco, Juan Mercier, Leonel Vangioni, Facundo Bertoglio, Ariel Ortega and Martin Palermo.

From the eleven players the most likely player to participate in the World Cup finals is Boca legend Palermo, who scored Argentina’s crucial winner in their penultimate World Cup qualifier against Peru last year. Other players with chances of making the squad are Pozo and Monzon, while Maradona could also add in a surprise.
